Your personal advisor for the stringed instruments world!
“I contacted Rhoda at The Strings Family when I needed to get a bunch of small-sized violins, FAST, to get a new strings program up and running. I had those violins in my hands within 5 days and was able to pick them out myself. Now the children are playing those violins and starting to learn to make beautiful music! I was even able to trade up on a size when I needed one more of the larger size. I so appreciated the fast turn-round time and the ease of arranging everything. Thank you so much!” ~ Julie, Switzerland
Hi! My name is Rhoda Barfoot and I’m a professional violinist, qualified violin teacher and director of The Strings Family, an online stringed instruments store specialising in children’s violins. Over the past 15 years I have helped hundreds of parents just like you to find the right violin for their child and to navigate the world of stringed instrument study.
The number 1 concern I hear from new violin parents is that they don’t know where to turn when their child takes an interest in violin lessons. How are they supposed to choose the right violin? How much should they spend on an instrument for their chid? How to find a seller they know they can trust? How will they know they are getting value for money? Who will help them with instrument care, maintenance and practical things like lessons support, practice planning and buying the accessories that the teacher recommends?
The Strings Family is here to support parents throughout the musical journey. We have all the products you will need: violins from student beginner to advanced level, rosin, shoulder rests, strings, mutes and all kinds of other goodies! All of our products are the very best value we have found in the market. See all our children’s violins here.
Our five star service starts with personalised advice and continues with ongoing support:
From learning how to select the right violin to keeping it safe, well maintained and in good condition so it will last well even in the hands of a young child, to advising on sheet music resources, repertoire, practice schedules and tips to keep your child motivated, The Strings Family will support you as you support your child in their musical study. On our blog and Ask Rhoda pages you’ll find many guides about supporting a child who is learning to play violin, written especially for parents.
The Strings Family is fast becoming the go-to resource for teachers who appreciate our specialist knowledge and speedy service. Having taught hundreds of young violinists, I have extensive teaching experience and a special research interest in violin pedagogy. I love to share this knowledge with other teachers and The Strings Family is where it all happens! To get started with our free guides, see the Teachers page.
We are happiest when kitting out a child or a school strings programme with some new instruments that they will love to play! Teachers, get in touch here if you need new instruments or upgrades for your school or own students. Discounts are available to schools and orchestras for multiple instrument purchases.
